Enrollment and eligibility
Annual Enrollment:
October 19 - November 3, 2026
Annual Enrollment is your chance to make sure your benefits meet you and your family's needs for the coming year.
Take time to review this eGuide and understand you options.
When you've reviewed your options for 2027 and are ready to enroll, visit the Alliant Energy Benefits Portal at myalliantenergybenefits.com.

In accordance with the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), you and/or your covered dependents have a right to continue your medical, dental and vision coverage for a specified period of time in the event you (or your dependents) are no longer eligible for coverage through the Alliant Energy benefits program.
Note: Deadlines for incurring expenses vary depending on whether you continue your contributions. You can elect coverage for your eligible dependents if they were also covered by the Alliant Energy plan in which you were enrolled immediately prior to your employment ending.
In general, your eligible dependents include:
- Your legal spouse or Domestic Partner where applicable.
- Children up to age 26, including adopted, foster, legal guardianship, children of domestic partner, stepchildren and those for whom you have a legal responsibility for health care.
- Disabled dependent children, regardless of age, who are fully dependent on you for support. Certification required for children over age 26 within 60 days of turning 26.
New to COBRA? If so, you must enroll in the plans you were enrolled in on your last day of employment. You may make changes to your enrollment during Annual Enrollment in October.
Qualified changes in family status There are several instances — called qualified changes in family status — in which COBRA continuation coverage will be available.
Examples of a qualified change in family status include:
- You end your employment with Alliant Energy.
- You’re no longer eligible for benefits due to a reduction in work hours.
- You and your spouse divorce or become legally separated.
- Your dependent child reaches the maximum age for coverage.
If both you and your spouse worked for Alliant Energy If both you and your spouse worked for Alliant Energy, you may enroll separately or as a family (where one of you enrolls and adds the other as a dependent). If you and your spouse enroll separately, your child(ren) may be covered under only one parent.
COBRA coverage Generally, COBRA coverage is available to you for up to 18 months (additional coverage up to 36 months may be available in certain circumstances, such as divorce).
To receive this coverage, you must:
- Have been covered by the Alliant Energy-provided plan in which you’re enrolled immediately prior to becoming ineligible for coverage (e.g., termination).
- Enroll in COBRA coverage.
- Pay the required premium. See Paying for coverage for more details.
Coverage categories
You can only cover whoever was covered before you left Alliant Energy. If your spouse has coverage through their employer, you may want to consider those benefits. If you decide that you don’t need to continue coverage through Alliant Energy's benefits, you may decline coverage.

What happens if you don't enroll
If this is your initial enrollment for COBRA benefits (instead of an Annual Enrollment period) and you don’t enroll during your enrollment period, you’ll no longer have access to company-provided benefits. If you’re currently enrolled in COBRA benefits and you don’t enroll during the Annual Enrollment period, your benefits (excluding company-paid benefits) will end December 31. If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) through your Alliant Energy benefits, see Health Savings Account (HSA) or Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) for information on what happens to your account after you leave Alliant Energy as an active employee.
