Who is eligible for benefits?
Eligible dependents
The benefits you are eligible for are available on each page within the My Coinbase Benefits site. The following family members are also generally eligible for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and voluntary plan offerings:
- Your spouse or qualifying domestic partner (DP)
- Your children and your spouse/DP's children under age 26
- Your children and your spouse/DP's children older than age 26 (if they are solely dependent on you due to mental or physical disability)
When can I enroll?
Enrollment windows occur:
- When you first join the Coinbase team.
- When you experience a Qualifying Life Event, such as a marriage or the addition of a child to your family.
- During Open Enrollment, your once-a-year opportunity to review and select your benefits coverage for the coming year.
Qualifying Life Event (QLE)
What events are considered a Qualifying Life Event (QLE)?
- Marriage, Divorce, Termination of a Domestic Partner
- Birth or Adoption of a Child
- Gaining Other Coverage
- Loss of Other Coverage
- Loss of Dependent Status (turning 26)
- Move Out of or Into a Service Area
- Death of Spouse or Dependent
What is the timeline for processing a QLE?
In the event of a QLE, you have 30 days from the date of the event to successfully update your elections in My Coinbase Benefits.
How do I know which benefit event type to choose?
The benefit event type should match the QLE taking place. If there is a change in coverage level, that should also match the event type.
Change my benefits
Need to update your benefits?
For most of your benefits, the only time you’ll be able to make a change is during Open Enrollment, unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE), such as a marriage or adding a child to your family.
To make benefits changes due to a QLE:
- Click on your profile at the top of the page.
- Choose Change My Benefits.
- Select Life Event and click on the one that describes your event.
- Follow the steps to change your benefits.
Change at any time
You may change the following benefits at any time:
- The amount you contribute to your 401(k)
- The amount you contribute to your HSA
- Who your beneficiaries are
To make a change to your HSA contribution or to your beneficiaries, follow these steps:
- Look for your name in the upper-right corner of the portal.
- Click on the drop-down arrow next to your name and choose Change my benefits.
- To change your HSA, click the down arrow next to Life Events and select the option to change your HSA.
- To change your beneficiary, click the down arrow next to Basic Info and select the option to change your beneficiary.
- For both options, you’ll follow a series of prompts that resembles the full benefits enrollment process, but you will only have the option to change either your HSA amount or beneficiary.
- When you have completed your changes, make sure to click I Agree and save the confirmation number for your records.
