Leaves of Absence
Unexpected circumstances can occur where you need to step away from work to manage a personal life event. Intel supports multiple leave programs—such as military, various medical, and family, so employees can take time they need and then successfully return to work. Additional Federal, State, and local leave entitlements may also be available to you. View more information on Leaves of Absence on Circuit.
Intel Personal Leave provides up to 52 weeks of unpaid leave in a rolling 5-year period, and is granted at your manager’s discretion. Personal Leave is job protected for the first 12 weeks of each approved absence, which means Intel will reinstate you to the same job or equivalent when you return. In some limited cases, you can take leave to complete a job-related post-undergraduate degree.
Bonding Leave
We know how important those first few weeks are with a new family member. That’s why Intel offers paid bonding leave within the first 12 months following a child’s birth, adoption, or placement in foster care. This includes new mothers and fathers. You receive up to 12 weeks of paid time off in addition to qualified pregnancy-related leave.
Personal Absence
The personal absence (PA) benefit is available to nonexempt employees.
- Nonexempt employees accrue 3.1 hours of personal absence time per pay period, which can be used in the following pay period.
- Exempt employees do not accrue PA time. Instead, you are paid your normal salary for time away from work due to personal absences. You must work with your manager to ensure work is completed.
- Part-Time employees accrue PA on a pro-rated basis based on work schedule. For example, an employee with a standard work schedule of 20 hours per week will accrue PA at a rate of 1.55 hours per pay period.
Intel Contract Employees and Interns are not eligible for PA benefits.
Sick Time
- For nonexempt employees, sick time is covered by our Protected Personal Absence guidelines. Use Workday to record sick time (Protected Personal Absences).
- As an exempt employee, you do not accrue sick time; you will be paid your normal salary for time away from work for reasons covered by the paid sick leave laws. You are responsible for notifying your manager regarding any absences.
Jury Duty
Intel’s Jury Duty benefit is not affected by whether or not you are also compensated by the court for your time. It is paid on top of whatever the courts give you for serving as a witness or on a jury.
- Nonexempt employees: If you work part of your regular shift, you will be paid for any combination of jury duty and time worked. Notify your manager in advance and provide them a copy of the receipt from the court clerk.
- Exempt employees: Intel will continue your full pay while you are serving as a witness or on jury duty.
Bereavement
You are allowed up to 10 paid days for bereavement for family members, including grandparents, in-laws and step-family. With the evolving nature of families and relationships, you do not necessarily need to be directly related to an individual in order to take advantage of this benefit. Additional relationships may be allowed at your manager’s discretion.
Bereavement is not a part of Leave of Absence, and does not affect your other employee benefits, including Personal Absence and Vacation accrual.
