Eligibility – Your Spouse (and Other Eligible Dependents)

If you’re an eligible retiree, your dependents are also eligible for retiree coverages. Eligible dependents include your:

  • Spouse, including your legal or common-law opposite or same-sex spouse (an individual is considered your common-law spouse after one year of cohabitation).
  • Unmarried natural, legally adopted, or stepchild who is dependent on you and/or your spouse for maintenance (your spouse must be living with you and have custody of the child). In addition, the child’s permanent residence must be in Canada, and they must be:
  • Younger than age 19 (age 21 if from Quebec) and not in full-time employment; or
  • Younger than age 25 (age 26 if from Quebec) and a full-time student in an accredited institution for learning; or
  • Incapable of self-sustaining employment due to a mental or physical disability, be chiefly dependent on you for maintenance and support, and be claimed by you as a tax dependent.

If you have any questions regarding your or your dependent’s eligibility, call the Mondelēz Canada Benefits Centre at 1-800-641-1500 (Option 1 – Benefits; Option 1 – Health & Welfare Benefits). Representatives are available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Time).

Your active Health (including prescription drug and vision) and Dental coverages end on the date you retire. Eligibility for any Health Care Spending Account (HCSA) you may have as an active employee also ends on the date you retire.

Initial Enrolment

Here’s how to enrol for retiree Health and/or Dental coverages.

  • After your retirement status is processed in Workday, the Mondelēz Canada Benefits Centre mails a communication to you at your home address on file.
  • The communication includes information about your retiree coverage options and it details how to complete the enrolment process.
  • You must actively enrol for retiree Health and/or Dental coverage. Be sure to enrol within 31 days after your retirement date. Note that you may initially experience a gap in coverage due to the time between your retirement date recorded in Workday and when you enrol on MyBenefits Online. Once you’re enrolled, however, your retiree Health and/or Dental coverage is retroactive to your retirement date.
  • After you enrol, you’ll continue to use the same GreenShield ID card/number.

You do have the option to waive retiree Health and/or Dental coverages. If you do, you must provide evidence that you have similar coverage through another source, such as through your spouse’s employer. Note that once you waive coverages, you must wait until the next Annual Enrolment period to enroll—unless you experience a qualified life event (such as a change in family status or loss of coverage under a spousal plan).

If you have any questions regarding the information you receive, call the Mondelēz Canada Benefits Centre at 1-800-641-1500 (Option 1 – Benefits; Option 1 – Health & Welfare Benefits).

Annual Enrolment

If you’re enrolled in the Retiree Flexible Benefits Program, you receive information about any coverage changes for the upcoming calendar year during the prior Annual Enrolment. Because this information is sent to your home address on file, it’s important that you keep your contact information up to date with the Mondelēz Canada Benefits Centre.

During Annual Enrolment, you can enrol (if you previously waived retiree coverages), re-enrol, or make changes to your coverages. Elections take effect on January 1 and remain in effect through the end of the year (December 31)—unless you experience a qualified life event during the year. If you do, the Mondelēz Canada Benefits Centre must receive your request to change coverage within 31 days of the event (evidence may be required).

Retirement Benefits

As an MDLZ eligible nonunion employee, upon retirement, you may be eligible for a benefit from your:

  • Defined Benefit Pension Plan (DB pension benefit); and/or
  • Mondelez Canada Inc. Retirement and Savings Program (Retirement and Savings Program)—which, depending on your eligibility and what you may have contributed to, may include any of the following:
  • Defined Contribution Pension Plan (DCPP)
  • Non-Registered Savings Plan (NREG)
  • Group Registered Retirement Savings Plan (GRRSP or RRSP)
  • Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA)

DB Pension Benefit

You may be eligible for a DB pension benefit if you’re a:

  • Legacy Kraft or Nabisco nonunion employee hired before January 1, 2011;
  • Legacy Cadbury Adams nonunion employee hired before June 1, 2002; or
  • Legacy Cadbury Former Adams employee hired before April 1, 2005.

To begin your DB pension benefit at retirement, follow these guidelines.

Contact the Mondelēz Canada Pension Centre to determine if you’re eligible. If you have a DB pension benefit, log in to your account on the Mondelēz Canada Pension Centre website. Here, you can view your annual statement and model/estimate your pension benefit.

Determine when you want to begin receiving your pension benefit. Your pension start date must be the first of the month, and your termination date from MDLZ must be prior to your pension start date. For example, if you want to start your pension on January 1, your termination date must be December 31 (or earlier).

Request your retirement package within 90 days of when you want your DB pension benefit to begin. You can do so by calling the Mondelēz Canada Pension Centre at 1-855-471-8552 (representatives are available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Eastern Time). Your retirement package will include an estimate of your DB pension benefit—based on your elected pension start date—and the forms you need to complete before your DB pension benefit begins. You’ll be asked to:

  • Select a payment option;
  • Complete the appropriate forms; and
  • Provide proof of your date of birth.

The Mondelēz Canada Pension Centre must receive your completed forms and proof of birth date before your DB pension benefit is finalized and payments can begin.

Retirement and Savings Program

Depending on your eligibility and what you may have contributed to, your benefit from the Retirement and Savings Program may include any balance from the DCPP, NREG, GRRSP/RRSP, and/or TSFA. To begin your payout at retirement, follow these guidelines.

Determine Eligibility

Contact Sun Life at 1-866-896-6976 to determine if you’re eligible for a benefit. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Eastern Time). See Benefit Resources for additional contact information.

Learn More About Your Payout Options Via Mail, Online, or by Phone

Here's how:

•By Mail: MDLZ notifies Sun Life of your retirement. Within 10 days of that notification, Sun Life will mail a Settlement Options Package to you at your home address. Your package will include more detailed information, including your payout options. •Online: Log in to your account on the Sun Life website. Once Sun Life receives notification of your retirement, you’ll see a “Leaving the Plan” link. Select that link to see all the payout options available to you. •By Phone: You can always call Sun Life (the Leaving Your Plan Group at 1-877-983-9893) to learn more about your options and/or to request a payout.

Retiree Life Insurance

You’re eligible for retiree life insurance coverage only if you’re eligible for Company-subsidized retiree Health coverage. If applicable, be sure to keep your beneficiary designations up to date. You may do so by contacting the Mondelēz Canada Benefits Centre.

As a reminder, the Company reserves the right to amend or terminate the retiree benefits and retiree coverages that it sponsors at any time (except for any accrued benefit for which you may be eligible for under a Defined Benefit Pension plan sponsored by the Company).
