Time off, Leaves and Flexibility
Time off
Even the best need to rest. That’s why Intel offers generous time off and flexible working hours to ensure that you’re able to recharge and come back to work ready to put your best foot forward.
Sabbatical
A hallmark of Intel is our sabbatical program. It’s the opportunity for eligible employees to enjoy an extended period of time away from work to rejuvenate and return to Intel revitalized with fresh ideas and new perspectives. Employees deserve an opportunity to step away, try something new, explore the world, volunteer or simply spend more time with their families and friends.
Full-time employees can choose to take a four-week sabbatical when they reach their four-year anniversary, or an eight-week sabbatical at seven years. Part-time employees earn sabbatical based on eligible work hours. Sabbatical eligibility dates reset after each sabbatical is taken—all in addition to regular vacation time.
Intel Contract Employees and Interns are not eligible for sabbatical. If you are subsequently hired as a regular full-time, blue-badge employee, your service time as a ICE or intern will not count towards sabbatical. If terminated and returned to Intel previous eligible service will not count toward sabbatical eligibility.
In the Aug. 1 All Company Meeting, Pat Gelsinger announced changes to our employee programs and services. Read the FAQs for more information about the changes and the impacts to this program.
Vacation Time
We offer regular vacation time for employees to refresh and recharge.
The following vacation benefits apply for General Full-time (GFT) employees. If your status is Part-time Employee (PTE), Intel Contract Employee (ICE), or Intern, see the Pay, Stock and Benefits Handbook, Chapter 4: Eligibility and Availability of Benefits for more information.
Exempt employees:
- Exempt employees receive three weeks of vacation per year to start.
- Intel Contract Employees (ICE) earn one day per month of worked time.
- After 10 years of service, you are given an additional week of vacation.
Nonexempt employees:
- Nonexempt employees receive 3.1 hours of paid vacation at the end of each pay period (up to 80 hours per year) for the first five years of employment, plus up to 80 hours of personal absence (PA) time.
- Interns and ICE employees accrue paid vacation time at 3.7 hours per pay period; however they do not accrue any PA time.
- Part-time employees (PTE) accrue vacation on a pro-rated basis, based on their standard work schedule. For example, an employee with a standard work schedule of 20 hours per week will accrue vacation at a rate of 1.55 hours per pay period.
- As you pass certain Intel anniversaries, you will be eligible for additional vacation hours. See the table below for the amount you earn:
Holidays
In addition to vacation time, Intel recognizes 12 holidays per calendar year, in addition to two floating days of the employee’s choice, for a total of 14 holidays.
- If you are an exempt employee or you work shifts 1-3: Your holidays are tied to specific days and may only be taken on those days. If you do not work on a scheduled holiday, you are not entitled to receive holiday pay nor are you entitled to floating holiday hours.
- If you work shifts 4-8: All holiday hours are floating and can be taken on any scheduled work date. Floating holidays should be taken within the calendar year.
- If you are a Part-time employee (PTE): Your holiday time is provided on a prorated basis, based on your standard work schedule.
California exempt employees: Floating holidays not used within a calendar year can be carried over into the next year.
Colorado exempt employees: Floating holidays not used within a calendar year will be paid out when you depart from Intel.
California and Colorado nonexempt employees: Floating holidays not used within a calendar year will be cashed out the following February.
